STATS AFTER WEEK 3

CHANGES TO THE DBA SITE

Dear DBA fans,
There have been several changes to the web site over the last few week. I will explain each change in case there is any confusion.
First of all, there have been some changes to the team banners on the right side column. Beneath each banner, there is a list of the players on the team. It also includes the position they play and their scoring average so far this season. The reason I added this feature was so that every player can get more recognition individually and so fans can see how well each player is contributing to the team as far as scoring goes. It would be too tedious to include every stat for each player and update it every week, although I do that on a spread sheet from home.
Second, I have added the DBA team records and player records in the right hand side of the web site. This will allow fans to see which teams are the best or the worst at specific statistical data related to their basketball play. Although the records will be updated throughout the season, most of the records, especially team records, can't be changed until the current season is finished. This is because the records are linked to the performance of a team or player over an entire season. Records that are linked to only one game will be updated immediately as records are beaten.
Third, I wanted to get some feedback from fans to see if they still want the season schedule on the site. It is sometimes a hassle for me to update the scores of the games in several different locations. I record them in the season schedule, latest games, in the game summary comments, and in my spreadsheet at home. I was contemplating just leaving the schedule there so fans can refer to it, but discontinue updating the scores there. Let me know what you think.
Finally, let me know if you have any ideas of making the site better or if you see any errors that need to be fixed. I appreciate all the fans of the DBA and without all of you, we wouldn't be able to put on and witness such amazing basketball games.

BEARS DEFEAT COUGARS IN AN EPIC GAME

Yo Yo Dalton and the Bears edge out a victory over Avery Gunderson and the Cougars in the highest combined score in DBA history. By the end of this epic battle, several records were almost beaten by either team. First of all, Yo Yo Dalton scored 32 points which was only 4 shy of Jerry Daines' record of 36. Dalton also made 6 three pointers which was only 1 shy of the record also held by Jerry Daines. The Bears also missed the record of the most points scored in a game at 56 which was ironically held by the Cougars. Devin Marks, for the Bears, tied his own record for the most assists in a game held at 12. The Bears missed the team assist record by only 1 which was shared by the Scorpions and Fire at 18 assists. The Cougars also missed out on a record of their own. As a team, they made 20 two-point field goals which was only 2 shy of the record held by the Bulls last season.

Even though many records were unattained, both these teams have proven that they are going to be dominant forces on the quest to the DBA Championship.

ALL-STAR COMPETITION

The battle to make it to the All-Star Team is heating up with only five more games in the season left for each team. The All-Stars will be determined by evaluating 13 stats at the end of the season: Free Throw %, Free Throws Made, Field Goal %, Field Goals Made, Three Point %, Three Pointers Made, Total Points, Assists, Blocks, Steals, Rebounds, Fouls, and Turnovers. Since Scoring makes up 7 of the 13 stat evaluations, the following list includes all players who are averaging more than 10 points per game so far this season, and are organized by position. These players are the likeliest contenders for becoming an All-Star. If players have the ability to play multiple positions, then they will be listed multiple times.

Only the top two in each position will become an All-Star. Since the Shooting Guards aren't very dominant this year, Yo Yo Dalton will probably play in the SG position during the All-Star Game even though he plays PG for his team. This will leave a battle for second spot between Harris and Scott. If Dalton goes to SG, than Daines and Mills will most likely be the PG's. For the Small Forward Positon it is basically a battle between Macey, Manterola, and Hanks. Manterola tends to turn it over a lot so he better get his scoring higher. Bogart and Hendricks are leading the Power Forwards, but Phillips and Walters have a shot at snatching it away from Hendricks because of his excessive fouls and turnovers. Avery Gunderson has virtually a 99% chance at being an All-Star, but the second spot is up for grabs between Antone, Saunders, and Gumphrey. Although Wyecliff plays SF and PF, he is not very close at either position. Anyway, we'll have to see what happens next in the final third of the season.

DICE BASKETBALL HEATING UP

The competition is heating up during the second half of the DBA season. Many dominant teams have fallen from elite status, and the upsets have proven that any team can win on any given night. The Scorpion's win over the then 6-0, #1 ranked, Cobras marked the start of a host of underdog wins. The Cobras lost again to the resurging Wolves 45 to 36. Then came the game where the Tigers beat the Killer Whales 37 to 31. Several games later, the Ice triumphed over the Vipers 42 to 39 in an amazing comback victory in overtime. A few games later, the Vipers lost another one to the Bears 38 to 47 as the Bears try to prove they can compete with anybody. Then to cap it all off, the Knights overtake the undefeated Cougars 35 to 31 to prove that they have a shot at the DBA Title.
There have been some amazing stories emerge as the season has continued on. There is the story of the Sharks winning 3 games in a row by one point, or the story of the Scorpions who even though they have a score differential of only -2, they have a dismal 2-7 record including a win over the fierce Cobras. There's the story of Terrance Clark getting the leagues individual game scoring record at 30 points, which was almost 3 times his previous personal best. There's the story of the previously unbeatable Cougars falling to the Knights, which hold the record for the fewest points scored in a game.
Throughout these stories are athletes; athletes with big dreams, even as they face many challenges. Some, such as the Cobras, struggle to not foul out of the game. Others, such as the Tigers and Stallions, struggle with turning the ball over. The Wasps and the Dragons struggle scoring the ball, although their rebounding is superb.
Regardless the challenge, they all continue fighting. They keep fighting for the right to be a champion. They keep fighting for the love of the game and they keep fighting for the enjoyment of the fans and spectators cheering from the stands. Whatever the outcome in the weeks that follow, you can only count on this; entertainment, blood, sweat, tears and a championship team. May the journey ahead be a memorable one.

1st Quarter
Scorpions start off the game with a 4 point play and a 3 point play on their first two possessions. Cobras struggle to get Mills the ball and commit a few turnovers. Clark for the Scorpions gets on fire.

2nd Quarter
Cobras start to heat up after a couple of three's in a row by Mills, and 4 0f 4 free throws by Hendricks. Scorpions stay on fire however with Clark leading the way. Scorpions get two more three point plays and nail a bunch of high percentage shots. Mills fouls out with a couple of possessions left before halftime. He leaves the game with only 8 points.

3rd Quarter
The 5 on 4 advantage for the Scorpions becomes very detrimental. The Cobras commit a bunch of turnovers, and can't get the ball to Hendricks. Hendricks fouls out midway through the third causing it to be a game of 5 on 3. He left the game with 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 turnovers. Although the Scorpions are able to get a bunch of steals, they start to get cold shooting the ball. They only score 5 in the third.

4th Quarter
The fourth quarter belonged to the Scorpions. Clark got hot and rack up a bunch of points including two three pointers, one of which turning into another 4 point play. The Cobras made a couple of lucky shots with 2 of their worst players and turned the ball over some more. Clark finished off the game with a league record 30 points, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 0 turnovers.

The Scorpions beat the Cobras 1 to 15 in turnovers, 8 to 14 in fouls, 9 to 0 in steals, and 18 to 8 in assists. The only stat comparable was shooting %. The Cobras, however, only shot the ball 20 times while the Scorpions got 41 shots off (free throws were included for both teams in shot total). Turnovers can literally kill a team.
