ALL-STAR COMPETITION

The battle to make it to the All-Star Team is heating up with only five more games in the season left for each team. The All-Stars will be determined by evaluating 13 stats at the end of the season: Free Throw %, Free Throws Made, Field Goal %, Field Goals Made, Three Point %, Three Pointers Made, Total Points, Assists, Blocks, Steals, Rebounds, Fouls, and Turnovers. Since Scoring makes up 7 of the 13 stat evaluations, the following list includes all players who are averaging more than 10 points per game so far this season, and are organized by position. These players are the likeliest contenders for becoming an All-Star. If players have the ability to play multiple positions, then they will be listed multiple times.

Point Guards
1. Yo Yo Dalton (Vipers) PG SG 20.5
2. Jerry Daines (Ice) PG 20.1
3. Stephan Mills (Cobras) PG 18.5
4. Terrance Clark (Scorpions) PG 13.4
5. Bryce Howard (Wolves) PG 12.4

Shooting Guards
1. Yo Yo Dalton (Vipers) PG SG 20.5
2. Greg Harris (Wasps) SG 13.5
3. Dennis Scott (Tigers) SG 10.3

Small Forwards
1. Jason Macey (Sharks) SF 17.9
2. Colby Manterola (Stallions) SF 17.3
3. Carter Hanks (Wolves) SF 16.1
4. Bill Wyecliffe (Bulls) SF PF 11.9
5. Gary Letty (Knights) SF 11.8
6. Martin Luther (Bears) SF 11.4

Power Forwards
1. Andrew Bogart (Killer Whales) PF 20.4
2. Freddy Hendricks (Cobras) PF 16.3
3. Peter Phillips (Tigers) PF 14
4. Jeff Walters (Cougars) PF 13.4
5. Bill Wyecliffe (Bulls) SF PF 11.9
6. Ed Wagner (Scorpions) PF 11.1

Centers
1. Avery Gunderson (Cougars) C 18.8
2. Will Antone (Fire) C 14
3. Fred Saunders (Bears) C 13.7
4. Ted Gumphrey (Bulls) C 13.3
5. Andre Simms (Dragons) C 12

Only the top two in each position will become an All-Star. Since the Shooting Guards aren't very dominant this year, Yo Yo Dalton will probably play in the SG position during the All-Star Game even though he plays PG for his team. This will leave a battle for second spot between Harris and Scott. If Dalton goes to SG, than Daines and Mills will most likely be the PG's. For the Small Forward Positon it is basically a battle between Macey, Manterola, and Hanks. Manterola tends to turn it over a lot so he better get his scoring higher. Bogart and Hendricks are leading the Power Forwards, but Phillips and Walters have a shot at snatching it away from Hendricks because of his excessive fouls and turnovers. Avery Gunderson has virtually a 99% chance at being an All-Star, but the second spot is up for grabs between Antone, Saunders, and Gumphrey. Although Wyecliff plays SF and PF, he is not very close at either position. Anyway, we'll have to see what happens next in the final third of the season.

I was shocked to see that the Vipers had two guys averaging 20.5 points per game. Those two players are a tremendous asset to that team. It looks like there are a lot of talented players that will be in that game... That could be a very high scoring affair.

The Vipers dominated the game shooting 7 of 9 from beyond the 3-point line. Also, Andrew Bogart and Daron Leonard for the Killer Whales fouled out in the 3rd and 4th quarters respectively. Game 85
Dragons 4 12 3 7- 26
Cougars 4 10 4 13 31

The first place Cougars almost get upset by the last place Dragons. The Cougars' star players, Walters and Gunderson, together commited 6 turnovers. Walters had 8 points, and Gunderson finished with only 10. Andre Simms for the Dragons ended the game with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Peterson, the point guard for the Cougars, saved his team from defeat by scoring a 3 pointer and two jumpshots late in the 4th to seal the victory. The Cougars were very dissappointed in their performance in the interviews after the game. The Dragons players were upset as well because they missed out on a great opportunity to beat the best team in the league.

Game 86
Knights 14 8 8- 13 41
Tigers- 6- 8 10 14 36

The Tigers came on strong in the second half, but it wasn't good enough to overcome a 1st quarter 8 point deficit. Letty for the Knights finished off the game with 17 points, 3 assists, and 5 rebounds. Phillips literally carried the Tigers with 24 points, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds. Letty and Phillips are both battling for All-Star spots.

Game 87
Wolves- 13 7 4 10 34
Stallions 9- 7 8 12 36

What a gut wrenching game. The Wolves were up after the first, but the Stallions battled back to tie it up going into the 4th quarter. In the 4th, the Stallions led by 6 points when the Wolves shot 2 threes and 2 jumpshots almost on consecutive possessions causing the Wolves to lead 34 to 33 with only one possession remaining. The Stallion's point guard, Kenny Jones, shot the game winning three after Bryce Howard for the Wolves fouled out on a ticky tacky foul. The Wolves' Carter Hanks finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal, and the Stallions' Manterola had 13 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 3 turnovers. Both are competing for the Small Forward position in the All-Star Game.

Game 88
Bears 14 11 11 14 50
Bulls-- 10 10 9- 9- 38

The Bears pretty much dominated the game except for when the Bulls came back and tied it up in the 2nd quarter. Martin Luther had 23 points, 2 blocks, 1 steal, 1 assist, and 1 rebound for the Bears. The Bulls' Wyecliff and Gumphrey both finished with 12 points each.

Great posts about the games. I was shocked that the Cougars barely pulled out the win. Sometimes you are going to play ugly and just hope you walk away with a win in the end.

Do you remember us talking about how big the game would be between the Cougars and Cobras around week 6 or 7? A lot has happened since then, but the two teams are back in the top two spots. It could be for the regular season title. Only 12 games to go until the big one!

Game 89
Killer Whales 6- 8- 10 4 28
Fire---------- 10 12 10 7 41

The Killer Whale offense struggles again with their 8 turnovers contributing heavily to the loss. Bogart for the K-Whales had 18 points, 2 blocks, and 1 rebound, but his 5 turnovers and 3 fouls dulled his supposed All-Star status. Will Antone led the way for the Fire with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and only 1 turnover. Antone is fighting in a close race for an All-Star Center position.

Game 90
Sharks 4- 10 9 10 8 41
Ice----- 14 8- 5 6- 2 35

The Sharks found themselves down 14 to 4 at the end of the 1st quarter, but they battled back to tie it up and send it to overtime. Once the overtime period began, the Sharks were unstoppable offensively. The Sharks were led by Macey who scored 14 points, and got 2 rebounds and a steal. The big surprize was Calvin Olson for the Sharks. Even though he averages only 2.7 points per game, he helped the Sharks battle back to win the game with 11 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Jerry Daines for the Ice scored 21 points and got 1 block, assist, and rebound. His 5 turnovers, however, may contribute to a loss of All-Star status. We will have to wait and see.

Game 91
Cougars-- 10 9 13 10 42
Scorpions 10 4 8- 12 34

The first quarter was back and forth, but the Cougars practically dominated the rest of the game. The Cougars had 3 players in double digit points: Walters 14 points; Gunderson 12 points; and Peterson 10 points. Gunderson fouled out in the 4th quarter. Clark and Wagner for the Scorpions each finished with 13 points a piece.

Game 92
Tigers 12 10 10 11 43
Wasps- 8- 10 11 4- 33

The Wasps kept it close throughout the game, but a 4th quarter cold spell sent them buzzing home with a loss. The Tigers had 3 players in double digit scoring. Dennis Scott had 17 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist. Jeremy Simper had 10 points and 2 rebounds. Peter Phillips did awesome with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals, and 1 assist. Greg Harris led the way for the Wasps with 17 points and 6 rebounds (Not bad rebounding for a Shooting Guard).

Game 93
Stallions 14 9 12 7- 42
Vipers--- 11 7 7- 11 36

This game was virtually Yo Yo Dalton for the Vipers against Colby Manterola for the Stallions. Dalton finished with 25 points, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 1 rebound. Manterola ended the game with 27 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal.

Game 94
Bulls-- 12 11 6 5 34
Cobras 9- 13 8 5 35

The Bulls suffer another one point loss as the Cobras breath a sigh of relief at almost losing the chance to catch the Cougars. Neilson for the Bulls fouled out with 2 possessions left in the game which led to 2 Cobras steals and the victory. Gumphrey and Wyecliff had 15 and 12 points for the Bulls, while Hendricks and Mills had 15 and 13 points for the Cobras.

Game 95
Fire---- 10 8- 10 4 32
Dragons 7- 10 8- 5 30

The Dragons couldn't quite get that coveted 2nd win of the season. Both offenses struggled in the 4th leaving the victory wide open. Antone for the Fire finished the game with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 assist. Rogers for the Dragons had 11 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist.

Ice----- 13 11 3- 9 36
Knights 5- 9- 11 7 32

The Ice almost let a big lead turn into a loss like their last overtime game against the Sharks, but they stay strong in the end with a Jerry Daines 3 point play. Daines finished with 24 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 assist, and 5 turnovers. Gary Letty for the Knights had 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 steal.
