Game P31
Cougars 7 12 7 6- 32
Wasps-- 7 9- 9 10 35

The score was back and forth the entire game but the Wasps edge out the Cougars with what could be the first of two devastating blows to the #1 team in the land. Gunderson for the Cougars had 22 points while Wasps' Harris finished with 16.

Game P32
Sharks 11 14 13 10 48
Cobras 4- 3- 20 8- 35

Cobras tie the record for the most points in a quarter but still lose by 13 to a dominating Sharks team. Macey had 27 points for the Sharks and Mills for the Cobras ended the game with 19 points.

Have you had a team come back from 0-1 to win the series yet?

The Cougars and Cobras will have to battle opposition to stay in contention for the title. Hopefully, they play well while their backs are against the wall!

The Wasps seem to be one of the most unlikely teams to win the championship, but they continue to squeak out big games when it matters most.

Game P33
Cougars 11 10 6 12 39
Wasps-- 9- 4- 6 13 32

Cougars maintained a comfortable lead since the middle of the 2nd quarter. The Wasps struggled shooting the ball until the 4th.

Game P34
Sharks 10 9 8- 14 41
Cobras 12 4 11 10 37

What an amazing game. It was tied going into the 4th quarter. The Cobras started off strong pulling ahead by 6, but then the Sharks went on a 12-2 run to finish out the game. Their last two possessions gave them 6 points. I thought the Cobras had it, but the Sharks never gave up. Mills, for the Cobras, shot 0 of 6 from the 3 point line which contributed to their loss.

Game P35
Cougars 12 7 8 6- 33
Wasps-- 6- 4 8 13 31

The Cougars were up comfortably in the 2nd and 3rd quarters but the Wasps made a comeback in the 4th. Their last ditch effort was enough however as the Cougars miraculously make it to the Championship series. Who would have thought that #1 would play #2 for the DBA Championship.

11 of 14 teams that won the first game ended up winning the series. It goes to show how crucial it is to get a victory early. It is interesting to note that the Cougars and the Sharks were both teams that came back to win the series after losing their first game. I am kind of surprised with all the upsets in the playoffs that we still ended up with the top two ranked teams in the finals. It is also interesting that 4 teams from the North and South divisions made it to the Elite Eight and 2 teams from each division made it to the final four. But since both North division teams won to go to the championship series, the pattern is now broken. Even though the divisions didn't matter this year, it was cool to see how balanced they were. I'm glad to see that 2 of my favorite teams made it to the finals. The Killer Whales, Wolves, and Stallions were my other favorites and they didn't even get past the first round. Anyway, fun stuff. I think both the Cougars and the Sharks deserve to win, but my gut feeling is going with the Sharks to win it all.

I have run over the stats and feel that the Sharks are going to win it all! They have averaged 40.5 ppg in the playoffs, and have given up 36 ppg. The Cougars have averaged 34 ppg, and are giving up 33.1 ppg. The Sharks have faced the regular seasons top two defenses (Cobras and Knights - in ppg) yet went on to win. The Cougars have played lesser teams and have narrowly escaped each time.

Everyone get out of the water - The Sharks are coming!!!

Game P36
Cougars 7 6- 4- 10 27
Sharks- 6 12 11 8- 37

The Cougars had 11 turnovers this game. I shook the number 1 on a 20 sided die 4 times in a row for the Cougars. Macey had 22 points for the Sharks and Gunderson for the Cougars finished with 14 points.

Game P37
Cougars 6- 13 10 4 33
Sharks- 12 4- 7- 4 27

This time the Sharks led in turnovers as the Cougars battle back from having a bad 1st quarter. Gunderson finished with 20 points while Macey had a below average 13 points.

Game P38
Cougars 5- 9 6 6- 26
Sharks- 10 5 8 11 34

The Cougars were only down 1 at halftime but early in the 3rd quarter Avery Gunderson, the Cougar All-Star, fouled out of the game. Miraculously, the Cougars stayed close until the last 3 possessions of the game. Peterson led the team for the Cougars with 12 points and Macey finished with 14 points and 3 steals. The Sharks are crowned the first DBA Champions and Jason Macey is awarded the Playoff MVP award. The Sharks won 6 games this years by 2 points or less including a playoff game against the Scorpions. After the game Gunderson was dissappointed for the foul calls but he congratulated the Sharks for their victory. Jason Macey stated after the game that he couldn't have played as well as has been without the help from his team mates. This is an exciting conclusion to the 01 season of the Dice Basketball Association.

I saw the update the night that you posted this. I thought I left a comment, but I just noticed that I didn't. I also forgot mentioned it on the phone when I spoke with you yesterday.

The Sharks were quietly, yet deservedly, the champions of the the DBA. They definitely earned the honor by beating the Cobras in two games, and then taking the Cougars to the woodshed.

They remind me a lot of the Spurs. They just went about their business regardless of what the media predicted. Neither of us guessed that they would win the title, but they did what they had to by winning games. They did it consistently without much flash!

Now for the real question, "Can they repeat next season?"
